Granite kerbs
Granite kerbs are still made using the same traditions from many years ago. A large block is extracted from the quarry as can be seen in the picture below. Men then use air drills to drill a line of holes in the granite. Next they bang into the granite wedges called feather and tares, putting even pressure on the granite until it breaks away. The kerbs are then punched clean using a chiesel and then stacked ready for sale. They may also have a very fine finish put on them using a dolly gun which runs with air.
